Feeder Mice - Size and Description

Feeder Mice are found all over the world but are believed to have their origins in Asia. Due to the high growth rate of their populations, and the advent of modern travel they have managed to migrate to Europe and finally America. Once every 425 days it is said that their population grows to one million or plague proportions. This makes them a large available source of Snake food, and spectacular for breeding purposes.

Feeder Mice also go by the name of weaners, jumpers, or hoppers. There are several different types of depending on life stage or when they are harvested for feeding.

Pinkie Mice or "pinkies"
Feeder mice are one type of frozen mice that are born sightless and hairless, at this stage their skin is a pink color, giving them their name. They weight approximately 1 gram at this point, and can easily fit in the palm of your hand. These are good for feeding smaller snakes and reptiles.

Fuzzy Mice
The next stage in the life cycle is the fuzzy stage. This is because they develop a fine set a hairs as they begin to mature. They weigh approximately 6 grams at this point.

Feeder Mice
The final stage is when the mouse makes it to adulthood and they get the name feeder mice. At this point they weigh approximately 20 - 30 grams. These are good for larger snakes, like a boa.

The lifespan of feeder mice is approximately 2- 3 years. However with breeding specifically for feeding to snakes and other animals, they are harvested throughout the life cycle as needed.
